Where Every Story Finds a Home

$At six years old, Manish Bansal was told not to exercise, not to swim, not to strain himself. He had a rare genetic disorder that would eventually destroy his kidneys. He went swimming anyway. Over the next five decades, he would undergo two kidney transplants, five hip replacements, five months of hospitalisation for pancreatitis, twelve years of pancreatic attacks, a cardiac arrest that fractured ten ribs, lower body paralysis, and pancreatic cancer. Between each of these, he built a hospital network from a single room in Mumbai, raised a son, loved a wife, and started a new company the month his chemotherapy ended. He also got a tattoo. It says, Carpe Diem. This is not a book about survival. It is not an inspirational story. It is the account of a man who decided — at six years old, and again at nineteen, and again at twenty-four, and again every time after that — that his illness was not the main character of his life. Not hope. A decision. One More Morning is unsentimental, darkly funny, and completely honest about what it actually takes to keep going — not courage, not optimism, but a very specific stubbornness, and the right people in the room.
